Order picking is a labour-intensive process that is found in most large warehouses, on production sites or at e-commerce facilities. Toyota offers a wide range of trucks to assist with order picking, from ground level all the way up to 12.1 m picking height. Optimal product fit thanks to a wide range of configurations
The order picker range of Toyota comes in many variations to best serve the load and area it needs to operate in. A few features:
- Different fork lengths for both pallet & roller cage handling
- Scissor forks to lift the forks to a comfortable working position (max lift height 800 mm)
- Platform lift on low level order pickers to elevate the operator one meter above the floor. It is equipped with a foot switch for hands-free lowering.
- High level picking models with 10.5 m platform height
- Mast model to use as order picker and stacker
- Walkthrough models to handle bulky or large loads
High performance and efficiency
Order pickers are used intensively, often in 2 to 3-shift operations. Lithium-ion battery technology is highly suitable as it is easier and faster to charge than lead-acid batteries and allows for opportunity charging. This eliminates the need to change batteries during the day, maximising overall productivity rates.
When working in low-temperature areas, it’s advised to keep the trucks in the cold as long as possible to avoid any condensation. Toyota order pickers are available with a heated Li-ion battery option that allows charging in cold environments for more productivity and less condensation issues.

Order pickers are forklift trucks mainly used to carry and transport items that are picked by the operator on a pallet or roll cage to the marshalling area. Often seen in warehouses storing fast-moving goods to fulfil orders, or in parts areas to feed production
There are specific models to support level picking, with the option to elevate the forks for more ergonomic picking. Order pickers with elevating platform can take operators to 2.8 m for first and/or second level picking. For picking at higher heights, Toyota has a wide range of medium to high-level order pickers with picking heights up to 12.1 m. This range can be chosen with rail/wire guidance or free operation to operate in narrow aisles.
You should consider a few things when purchasing an order picker:
- What type of load carrier and quantity: the trucks can handle different types of load carriers, i.e.2 pallets or up to 5 roll cages
- Required picking height: the range offers picking heights up to second level
- Safety: for safer operation, the high-level order pickers can be chosen with rail or wire guidance
- Ergonomics: for more ergonomic working, models with elevated forks can be chosen, to function as worktable. The models with platform lift support more ergonomic picking at higher heights. The remote drive solution, t-mote, is a great tool to increase efficiency and ergonomics when picking at ground level.
Toyota’s medium to high-level order pickers come with different guidance systems:
- Wire guidance: cables are mounted in the floor. The order pickers can pick up the signal of the cable to get automatic guidance
- Rail guidance: metal profiles are installed on the sides of the aisle to guide the machine
- No guidance/free ranging: the order picker can steer the truck independently.
